it doesn’t hurt any less that none of this actually happened, but it was…i suppose, the right thing. the thought that tiberius stormwind, as much a cornerstone of vox machina as any of them, would have come to such an ignoble, lonely, solitary end that was hardly befitting of him hurts a fuckton. and the thought of all that really fucking hurts. Sure, they could have gone to marquette, fought a different fight, found a different vestige, come up with a different plan, spared themselves the pain of having to bury a good friend. but then tiberius would not have gotten a burial, they may not ever have been able to give their friend a final tribute, and tiberius would have rotted away in the background because of this son of a bitch dragon. that if they had delayed going to Draconia, by the time they got there, there may not have been a tiberius left to find. that if they hadn’t gone to Draconia today, they probably wouldn’t have found as much of tiberius as they did today. that they would have forgotten over time to go to Draconia if not for the dragon that had taken up residence there. There’s a very REAL possibility they may never have known. they almost didn’t know that tiberius had died fighting the same fight they were. they almost went hunting for the rest of the vestiges. it took them 20 episodes to finally come around to this, and they almost didn’t. he knew, back in ep43 when usisa scried towards the dragons and found one of them attacking draconia (i’m still not over liam and taliesin crying about this and what the hell tiberius was probably still even alive at that point), that tiberius was doomed.

he knew, when they came back in january, when he put tiberius in greyskull keep literally One Last Time™ so they could say goodbye to him, that this was the last time any of them would be seeing tiberius alive. Matt tweeted that he’d told orion about it back in december. The fact that in-game, this seems to have happened quite some time ago (as far as i’m understanding it anyway, i had to miss the second half of the show coz of work eeew), that outside of the game/story, matt has known FOR 8 MONTHS that this was a thing, that so many of us are like “they should’ve gone to marquette instead like matt wanted them to!” but none of that would’ve changed the fact that tiberius stormwind died.

Like…you know what really gets me about the whole thing, other than the obvious?
